Chris Miles Guitarist for The SkeletonesMeet The Skeletones Famed Guitarist Chris Miles

by Johnny Punish

Originally from Riverside California, since Chris Miles was a kid, he’d been watching the The Skeletones rise up from local music heroes to national SKA prominence.

Going through the typical join a band, learn by ear, and join another band, learn some more and get better scene, Chris began developing a love for guitar and musical tastes becoming a major fan of his favorite guitarist George Benson

 As Chris says of George Benson “he is the most soulful, funky, and bad ass when he plays guitar solos”.

To improve his musical abilities, Chris took formal guitar lessons for about 2 years but readily acknowledges that his style is now derived from freestyle playing by ear to the varying funky soul sounds he loves.

Since the age of 12, Chris has been playing in all kinds of bands.

In 1999 joined Esoteric 7, a Riverside California Jazz, Funk, Folk, Rock and Hip hop band.  He jammed with them playing both guitar and bass until 2003 where he met up with Woody Diaz, the current drummer for The Skeletones who played for Esoteric 7 as well.

Chris Miles The SkeletonesThey became good friends and, in fact, it was Woody Diaz, who, in 2007, recruited Chris and encouraged him to join The Skeletones after the guitar position become open when long time Skeletones guitarist Alex Tausch moved on.

But to get on stage with The Skeletones required a very difficult and trying time road for Chris.

In 2003, he was in a car accident. As Chris says;

 “I almost died from a car accident when I was 22 yrs old.  I am bonus time now and very happy to be alive jamming with the Tones! There couldn’t be a cooler bunch of dudes!”

At 29, Chris is rolling with the band and having a great time.  He currently plays a Washburn semi-hollow body guitar. He’s hoping to get an old Top PRS McCarty guitar.

Not married, he’s about to be a first time father and is expecting a baby girl any day now.  He loves Stevie Wonder music and playing golf on his time off.  Musically he’s open for the future and riding the musical winds.

If you really want to know Chris consider what he said when asked about what his favorite flavor of Ice Cream is;

 ”I don’t have a favorite ice cream flavor….. “I am not trying to sound boring but I feel picking a favorite would diminish the value of the others”.

And there you have it.

Meet Chris Miles of The Skeletones!
